Branding Guidelines

Welcome to CAIU branding guidelines page! We want to make it easy for you to integrate our logo and colors into your work while respecting our brand and usage restrictions. We are proud of our team, our brand, and we want to show the world how AMAZING we are.

If you are looking for even more information, guidelines, or tools to effectively, efficiently, and consistently communicate with CAIU team peers, families, and community partners, click here to see CAIU’s Communications Guide.

Below are quick links to each section.

Our Logo

We are very proud of the work we do. Our logo is a representation/reflection of us, and it is important that we follow these guidelines to ensure we always look our best. The line “Capital Area Intermediate Unit” has been added to help connect and identify that C – A – I – U is an acronym. All of the logos are in PNG format with transparent backgrounds. No more white boxes around your logo!

Our Colors

Green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, and environment. Our CAIU greens are staying, but we have now provided flattering colors that complement each other well. We also paired them with the best logo combinations so you can quickly reference what looks best.

Our Templates

Work smarter, not harder. Use these handy templates to start your presentations, letters, flyers, brochures, or posters. Customize the text and photos to your individual needs.

Some templates are offered in both Microsoft and Google options; however, the two do not always play well together. We found that posters, flyers and brochures with heavy graphics were more easily developed and editable in Microsoft Publisher. Google Doc and Slides templates (letterhead and presentation) COMING SOON!

FAQ

Our brand communicates the essence of the Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU). We are very proud of the work we do. We are dedicated to the well-being of our students; we are partners to our community; we are experts in education; we are innovators; we are leaders; and we serve others.

Greater awareness and consistency of the CAIU brand adds strength, value, and impact to the work we do. Our brand and logo are a representation/reflection of all of us, and it is important that we follow these guidelines to ensure we always look our best.

A unified message that highlights CAIU’s impact in the community will further the organization’s mission and vision.

The line “Capital Area Intermediate Unit” has been added to help connect and identify that C – A – I – U is an acronym.

We no longer wish to be verbally identified as the name of the popular cartoon character, Caillou, or as the Spanish word “caiu” meaning fall, drop, go down, collapse, or sink. Neither are favorable to our brand identity.

Refreshing our visual identity creates a strong, cohesive look and feel across the entire organization. The consistent logo architecture, color palette, fonts and graphic system improve brand recognition and awareness.

The new brand identity and logo project was initiated by the CAIU Communications Team with contribution and input by Leadership Communications Sub-committee and Cabinet members. Input was also collected from Student Services and Educational Services team members who beta tested initial designs.

The CAIU Communications Team is responsible for communication across multiple platforms — from the website to social media to collateral materials.

CAIU will implement comprehensive brand identity guidelines throughout the organization. This implementation will be a “soft rollout” with a slow, strategic change happening over the 2020-21 school year.

The Communications Team will lead ongoing training sessions to help our organization’s communicators effectively represent the CAIU brand in their work. These trainings were previously held in January and February 2020 and a recording is available for viewing here.

For the brand guidelines, visit caiu-employee.caiu.org/welcome/caiu-branding.

Since January 2020, the new logo has already started to appear. This was designed as a beta test to measure and identify potential change issues.

Teams and CAIU programs can begin using the new logo and brand identity immediately.

We will continue to use existing stocks of printed materials, such as envelops and business cards while supplies last. Beginning in August 2020, printed items ordered from Office Depot will have the new logo and a new design. This update will be automatic and you will order the same way you do today.

The Communications Team is working with Facilities to replace some signage with the new logo immediately. Other CAIU signage will be replaced with the new logo over time.

We are stronger together. We do not appear strong or unified if we do not have a consistent and cohesive look across all teams and programs. Imagine your favorite sports team with different uniforms in different colors and fonts. The brand and logo is our team uniform. Compliance is vital for achieving the objectives of the updated brand and logo.

As part of branding guidelines, the Communications Team has created and approved additional CAIU brands or sub-brands for use.

For brand or logo use that will have external audience distribution (community partners, government officials, media, prospective employees, parents, or school districts), the official color palate and font selection should be used.

Color choices are unlimited inside classrooms or for the purposes of providing educational services.

Templates have been provided, but we are always looking for new ideas and designs. Please email new templates for approval to communications@caiu.org.

Photos not exclusively taken by yourself should not be used. Many photos found online are copyright protected, meaning the photographer that pushed the button owns the copyright. A photographer will own that copyright throughout their life and 25 years afterwards. CAIU could be held legally and financially liable using the photo without the photographer’s permission.

The photography provided in our branding guideline has been screened for copyright use. No need to worry about copyright issues, licensing fees, or student photo releases. We did all of the checking and verifying for you.

Want to submit a photo that you did take? Email it to communications@caiu.org. Be sure that any CAIU student(s) or family within the photo did not opt-out of the school year’s photo release and/or signed the CAIU media release form.
